There are centerpiece bowls—and then there are centerpiece bowls with ram heads for handles.

This dramatic silverplate centerpiece features a large scalloped body raised on ornate feet, with pierced heart and foliate-style decoration repeating around the sides. At either end, beautifully modeled ram heads emerge from the bowl beneath long, curling horns that form the handles.

The combination of classical animal motifs, pierced metalwork and substantial proportions gives the piece an wonderfully old-world, European feel. The interior features an elaborate engraved central cartouche, adding another layer of ornamentation even when the bowl is displayed empty.

At 16 inches wide, this is a substantial decorative piece and would be spectacular filled with fruit, flowers, seasonal greenery—or simply left empty where the sculptural ram heads can do all the work.

The silverplate retains an aged patina with surface wear, tarnish, variation in finish and other signs of previous use consistent with age. I personally love it exactly this way; the patina gives the piece far more depth and character than a highly polished finish.
