A remarkable piece of 19th-century Gothic Revival design, this antique mantel clock was made by Terhune & Edwards of New York, a clock firm active from the late 1850s through 1872.

More miniature architecture than simple timepiece, the clock features an imposing cast iron front richly ornamented with Gothic-inspired details. Elaborate mother-of-pearl inlay is worked throughout the facade, catching the light with flashes of iridescence against the dark iron. Painted floral accents, architectural columns, scrollwork, and a Roman numeral dial complete its wonderfully dramatic appearance.

An extraordinary statement piece with more than 150 years of history behind it—and exactly the sort of antique capable of commanding an entire room.

The clock features an 8-day time-and-strike movement and includes its key and pendulum.
