The Redheaded Hare is an independently owned antique shop founded by Brittany Carpenter, built on a love of history, beautiful interiors, and objects that refuse to go unnoticed.

With an affinity for Victorian elegance, French Baroque extravagance, and everything wonderfully unusual, its founder has cultivated a distinctive approach to collecting—one that favors individuality over convention and character over perfection.

What began as a personal fascination with antiques has become a pursuit of finding extraordinary pieces and introducing them to people who appreciate their beauty just as much.

Our Story

A Life of Moving. A Love for Things That Last.

For 20 years, my husband, Jonathan, served in the United States Coast Guard. During 17 of those years, our family moved six times, making homes in different places and learning to embrace the adventures—and challenges—that came with each new chapter.

With every move came another house to make our own, another space to fill with warmth, personality, and a sense of belonging.

After years of packing, unpacking, and starting over, we finally planted our roots in Summerville, South Carolina.

Perhaps that’s part of what makes antiques so meaningful to me. After a life spent moving from place to place, there’s something comforting about surrounding yourself with pieces that have endured. Objects that carry history, tell stories, and bring a sense of permanence to a home.

The Redheaded Hare grew from that appreciation for beautiful things with a past, and from a desire to create spaces that feel collected rather than decorated.

Today, I carefully source antiques and vintage treasures that capture the romance, craftsmanship, and eccentricity of another era. My heart has always belonged to the drama of Victorian interiors, the elegance of European design, and those wonderfully unusual pieces that make a home unmistakably its own.

What began as a love for creating a beautiful home has grown into a passion for helping others do the same.

Because after all those years of moving, I’ve come to believe that home isn’t simply where you live.
